Roles and Responsibilities

As an Associate at Trace Law Partners, you’ll be responsible for managing a range of technology and commercial law matters. Your daily tasks will include a mix of advisory, transactional, and regulatory work. The role demands intellectual curiosity, precision, and business understanding.

  • Provide legal advice and strategic guidance on data protection and privacy matters, including compliance with global frameworks such as GDPR and Indian data protection laws.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate complex technology contracts — including SaaS, software licensing, cloud service, vendor, and data processing agreements.
  • Assist clients in the gaming and fintech sectors with licensing, policy, and compliance support in line with evolving legal frameworks.
  • Work on intellectual property (IP) matters such as IP protection strategy, licensing, and enforcement for tech-based clients.
  • Stay updated with new regulations and developments in the TMT sector and prepare internal research notes and client alerts.
  • Conduct risk analysis and prepare due diligence reports for clients entering into digital and tech-based business models.
  • Collaborate with senior lawyers to handle client communications, draft legal opinions, and present findings effectively.
  • Participate in client meetings and assist in the execution of commercial agreements, ensuring compliance with applicable laws.
  • Engage in business development activities such as webinars, thought-leadership articles, and knowledge-sharing sessions.


Eligibility Criteria

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB) from a reputed university.
  • 2–3 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) in a reputed law firm or in-house legal department with exposure to TMT, data protection, or technology law.
  • Strong understanding of data protection frameworks such as GDPR, Digital Personal Data Protection Act (DPDPA), and related compliance obligations.
  • Experience working with fintech or gaming clients will be an added advantage.
  • Excellent communication and drafting skills with the ability to handle client interactions independently.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to new challenges, work under tight deadlines, and manage multiple matters simultaneously.
