Investment Professional @ Y-Point VC Fund
Are you excited to turn breakthrough research into real-world businesses? Y-Point, the DeepTech venture fund sponsored by the Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Bombay, is hiring an Investment Professional. This role offers hands-on exposure to India’s research-to-market pipeline — from lab benches and patents to pilot plants and first customers. If you’re driven by mission, curious about complex technology, and skilled at financial analysis, this could be the next step in your VC career.
About Company
Y-Point (SINE, IIT Bombay) focuses on early-stage DeepTech investments originating from academic institutions, national labs, and research incubators. With the backing of IIT Bombay’s extensive R&D ecosystem, Y-Point bridges technical expertise and commercial strategy to accelerate startups across robotics, advanced materials, biotech, semiconductors, photonics, clean energy, and AI applied to scientific problems. The fund emphasizes rigorous technical diligence, founder support, and ecosystem building to convert high-potential research into scalable enterprises.
Position Details
- Job Title: Investment Professional
- Employment Type: Full-time
- Experience Required: 2–6 years (VC / PE / IB / deeptech startup experience preferred)

Roles & Responsibilities
This is a broad role that blends sourcing, technical diligence, commercial analysis, and portfolio support. You will:
- Sourcing & Ecosystem Outreach: Map and engage with research groups, incubators, technology transfer offices, and accelerators across India. Proactively source early-stage spinouts and founders with disruptive R&D.
- Technical & Commercial Due Diligence: Assess technology readiness (TRL), validate IP claims, benchmark alternatives, model commercialization pathways, and quantify total addressable market and adoption barriers.
- Investment Memos & Committee Prep: Draft clear, structured memos covering technology risk, market fit, unit economics, cap table impacts, and exit scenarios. Present findings to the investment committee.
- Deal Execution: Support term sheets, coordinate legal and technical advisors, and liaise with co-investors and service providers during transaction execution.
- Portfolio Engagement: Work with founders on milestone planning, shaping KPIs, fundraising readiness, customer introductions, and connecting with lab or pilot resources.
- Knowledge Building & Events: Curate content, workshops or demo days that help translate lab outcomes into investor-ready ventures; represent Y-Point at conferences and academic events.
Eligibility Criteria
- 2–6 years of relevant experience — ideally in VC, private equity, investment banking, technology commercialization, or as part of a deeptech startup team.
- Academic grounding in science, engineering or business, with a proven ability to read and evaluate technical papers, patents and prototypes.
- Strong analytical skills: financial modeling for early-stage startups, market sizing, unit economics, and sensitivity analysis.
- Clear communicator: capable of writing investment memos, presenting to senior stakeholders, and negotiating with founders and advisors.
- Networker: demonstrated ability to build relationships with incubators, TTOs, professors, lab managers and industry partners.
- Commitment to working in an academic-entrepreneurial environment where timelines can be longer and technical validation is critical.
